File & folder permissions
Files & folders exist under projects and will inherit project permissions. This section describes how to set permissions & visibility options for files & folders.
File permissions can be explicitly defined, folder permissions cannot. Folder permissions inherit the project permissions.
File permissions can be assigned to users in the following User Roles:
- Viewer: users who can view the file.
- Contributor: collaborators who have edit access to the file and can perform any operation except to delete the file.
- Owner: the user who owns the file and the only user who can delete or rename the file.

To make it easier to collaborate, files have two inherited group permissions called
Everybody at <space> and Everybody at <project> that both default to the Contributor role. This inherited permission can be changed by using the Share menu. Visibility settings control who can see a file and its contents. File Contributors & Owners can manage these options from the Share menu:
This is the most strict visibility setting and is recommended when the file content is sensitive.
When a file's visibility is set to private:
- The file will not appear for anybody in the project's file list.
- The file cannot be shared or accessed by link.
Open visibility
Open visibility makes it easy to share file within a team.
When a file's visibility is set to open:
- All users in the space can see this file in the project's file list.
- Anybody with the general access link can access this file
Public visibility makes it possible to share the file with anonymous users using a general access link.
The following permissions are available for anonymous users who access the file through a publicly shared link:
